Educate Yourself about Solar, Wind, and Other Renewable Energy Systems

Knowledge is Power!

On these pages we intend to supply you with information to help you make good decisions regarding your energy needs. This guidance is based on our breadth of knowledge in efficiency measures and renewable resources. A good rule of thumb is to think efficiency and energy conservation first and then supply your own decreased energy needs through renewable energy systems like solar or wind. A good place to start is to have an energy evaluation or energy audit performed by a certified professional on your home or business. After your home or business is energy efficient the owner should then generate their own power onsite.

Solar Electric Photovoltaic (PV Systems)

Photovoltaic Solar Systems, or Solar Electric Power systems, use sunlight to generate electricity. Net metering allows owners of solar systems to sell excess electricity to  the power company. Learn more…

Solar Thermal Hot Water Heating/Cooling

Solar Thermal, or Solar Hot Water, is the collection, storage, and use of heat from sunshine to create hot water. Many residential owners use a system to pre-heat their water stored in an existing hot water tank or even to heat a swimming pool. Commercial systems may use Parabolic Troughs to collect heat. The heat is then used to supply heat, air conditioning, and even electricity generation. Learn more…

Wind Power

Capturing the power of wind with wind turbines to create electricity that can either be used or stored in batteries. Some systems are hybrid and use both wind and solar.

Geothermal systems use the consistent underground temperature of the earth to provide heat during the winter and cooling during the summer. Learn more…

Biomass is fuel that is developed from organic materials, a renewable and sustainable source of energy used to create electricity or other forms of power.

Combined Heat and Power

Combined heat and power (CHP) generates electricity while also capturing usable heat that is produced in this process. This contrasts with conventional ways of generating electricity where vast amounts of heat is wasted. In today’s coal and gas fired power stations, up to two thirds of the overall energy consumed may be lost; seen as a cloud of steam rising from cooling towers.

Save Energy and Save Money!

LED Lighting

LEDs are “directional” light sources which means they emit light in a specific direction, unlike incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs which emit light – and heat – in all directions. For this reason, LED lighting is able to use light and energy more efficiently in many applications.

Energy Management

Energy Management is the process of monitoring, controlling and conserving energy in a building, organization or home. Energy storage systems including batteries can now be used with a Demand Response (DR) system place. Deliberately reducing load reductions and using stored energy during times of peak demand or high market energy prices can really impact your business’ bottom line. Learn more about Demand Response and Energy Management…

Conservation/Efficiency Measures and Energy Management

The most simple and cost effective way to reduce your energy bills and your carbon footprint is to conserve energy. Here is a list of some simple ways to decrease your energy usage:

  1. Install LED light bulbs; LED’s use about 1/8 the energy of incandescent.
  2. Insulate ceilings, walls, hot water tanks and pipes
  3. Install a programmable thermostat; turn down the heat and turn up the A/C temperatures when they are not noticeable such as when no one is home or everyone is sleeping, or during non office hours for businesses.
  4. Install energy-efficient appliances, including: on-demand hot water heaters, clothes washers, clothes dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers
  5.  Install energy efficient, double paned windows

For new construction, take advantage of passive solar design to decrease overall space heating and cooling energy needs over the lifetime of the building

These small steps add up to considerable savings on utility bills. Becoming aware of your own energy usage is a good starting place to begin transitioning from the mindset of endless, easily accessible, carbon based fuels. The world’s demand for these fuels continues to increase while limited supply is being depleted. The sun is a virtually infinite source of free energy that when used wisely, can supply most of our daily needs. There is a statement that can be perfectly applied to conservation and renewable energy technologies, “Think globally, act locally”.

An Energy Audit can be performed to determine where energy is being wasted on the property. The audit will provide options to decrease or eliminate inefficiencies and bring down the energy loads of the building.

  • Lower your electric bill. LEDs use only 2-17 watts of electricity, about 1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescents or CFLs.
  • LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescents so you don’t need to replace them as often.
  • LEDs do not get hot and therefor do not contribute to air conditioning costs.
  • No mercury is used in the manufacturing of LEDs.
  • LEDs are solid and hold up better than incandescent bulbs.
