The owners of Bold Logistics in Hutchinson, Kansas wanted to reduce their electric bills for one of their warehouse spaces. They hired Good Energy Solutions to design and install a roof-mounted commercial solar panel system on this former Target store.

The commercial array features 230 high-performance solar panels on the flat roof of their building, with all of the panels oriented to face south.  This design will take in as much sun as possible, making the system highly efficient. These panels are resilient against snow, wind, hail and fire. Bold was able to take advantage of a 30% federal tax credit to help pay for the project.

The Bold Target project brought on a chance to utilize some of the more recent code changes in the National Electric Code (NEC). In 2020 we had the introduction of PV Hazard Control Systems which utilize equipment that has been rigorously tested to meet the UL3741 requirements.  Utilizing these new requirements allowed us to build a PV system that does not require the use of rapid shutdown devices.  This ultimately makes for a more streamlined system that, in this case, removed 230 devices that bring in their own set of complications.  This accelerates installation time and saves the customer money.  It also removes several of the most common points of failure in a PV system.

Now a large portion of the building’s monthly electric bill is offset from the electricity generated by the solar panels without the need for much upkeep or maintenance. We expect this Hutchinson commercial solar panel system to provide renewable energy for decades to come.
