Hutchinson Commercial Solar Project Details
The owners of Bold Logistics in Hutchinson, Kansas wanted to reduce their electric bills for their office space and warehouse. They hired Good Energy Solutions to design and install a roof-mounted commercial solar panel system. At the time of the install, the project was billed as the state’s largest privately held solar array.
The 200-kilowatt system supplies 80 percent of the electricity consumed by the 110,000 square feet of office space and warehouse in the former Peel’s Beauty Supply Complex, 1125 E. Fourth Ave. The system’s electrical generation is roughly equal to that required to supply 25 average homes.
The commercial array features 768 solar panels installed on the warehouse roof, facing southwest. The dimension of the individual 260-watt panels, attached to a racking system made of recycled plastic sitting on the surface of the roof, is about 40 by 70 inches, and the panels weigh about 40 pounds each.
The solar panel installation comes with an unanticipated side benefit. The panels shield the roof from the sun, gaining a 5-degree temperature drop in the warehouse.
Bold was able to take advantage of a 30% federal tax credit to help pay for the project.
This Kansas commercial solar panel system will continue to generate electricity for decades to come.
