Solar on the KCI Terminal Parking Garage

KCI Solar Project Details

KCI Solar

Sustainability played an important role for the builders of the new terminal at Kansas International Aiport (KCI). They asked Good Energy Solutions to design and procure the materials for the new solar awning located on the new KCI parking garage. The new KCI terminal is the first airport project in the Midwest and the second in the United States to achieve LEED Gold certification under the LEED v4 for Building Design and Construction rating system.

This solar awning system will provide ongoing electricity for the terminal. Annually, this system supplies roughly the equivalent amount of energy to the airport as 20 average homes would use. These durable modules feature aluminum frames and tempered glass with an expected working life of 40 years.

This KCI solar project utilizes 510 SunPower 330 watt solar modules for a total of 168.3 kilowatt (kW) of DC power.
