9.72 kW Commercial Solar Awning at Prairie Birthday Farm in Kearney, Missouri

Kearney Agrivoltaic Solar Project Details

Prairie Birthday Farm Solar - Kearney, Missouri

Prairie Birthday Farm, LLC is a small-scale family farm, established in 1993 by Linda Hezel and Richard Moore.  It supplies regeneratively produced fruits, vegetables, herbs, and edible/decorative flowers without the use of synthetic chemicals to area residents and local chefs. The couple is very excited about adding solar to the property as they’ve been studying agrivoltaics for several years. This solar ground mount not only generates clean renewable energy daily, but also shelters raised beds growing various veggies and herbs.

The Farm works as a teaching laboratory where Linda shares the science, art and craft of artisanal food growing with chefs, farmers, apprentices, gardeners, nutritionists, naturalists, artists and others.  Her primary mission is to promote regenerative agroforestry practices and food literacy.

Linda has been studying for several years to add agrivoltaics to Prairie Birthday Farm and is excited to add dual use solar to the business. Good Energy Solutions Inc., and Sinclair Design and Engineering, LLC worked with Linda to design and build this ground-mounted solar system that will reduce the farm’s carbon footprint and serve as a demonstration project for other small-scale growers.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT

Good Energy Solutions designed and built this solar ground mount to help Linda achieve her goals of saving money and conserving energy.

Projected Yearly Solar Energy Generation vs Energy Consumption at Prairie Birthday Farm

The main reason for this project is research. Linda hopes to obtain grants to help with the costs of the project. She also took advantage of incentives like the 30% federal tax credit and federal MACRS bonus depreciation, saving almost $17,000 towards the project’s cost.

I’m trying to offset my energy use and carbon footprint. And it’s teaching me about my energy use and my energy waste.

SOLAR CANOPY

This custom ground mount uses Sinclair’s racking system to mount the solar panels on the canopy. The design of the system features spacing between the solar panels that will allow sunlight and rain into the raised beds under the array.
